One more case of alleged police brutality has surfaced in Labasa, now involving an 18-year-old youth.
The youth, Malakai Ledua, had returned from Pontoon nightclub on Monday evening when the alleged assault occurred.
His uncle Maikali Dimuri who lodged a criticism on the Labasa Police Station stated he took his nephew to the hospital after seeing accidents on his head.
“My nephew informed us that the officer who allegedly hit him was in uniform and had adopted him from city after he left his pals following an argument,” Mr Dimuri stated.
“I used to be informed the policeman, who is thought to us, had hit him on the tramline, and injured his head when my nephew fell to the bottom.”
Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro confirmed the incident saying the matter is being investigated.
“If preliminary investigation affirm the allegation in opposition to the workplace, the officer will then be interdicted and charged criminally and in addition defaulted for our inside tribunal course of,”Ms Naisoro stated.
“For such instances involving law enforcement officials, the top results of termination of service with the Pressure.”
The latest alleged assault case occurred early this month on the Labasa bus station during which an officer allegedly man-handled a bus driver.
